Mosigkau

Palace and palace garden

Mosigkau Palace is unique in the Garden Realm of Dessau-Wörlitz: As a charming example of Rococo architecture, it captivates with its elegant but also playful design. The building exudes a special lightness, with magnificent jewellery combined with a harmonious, symmetrical structure – both outside and inside.

History

Little Sanssouci

The history of the palace begins with a generous gesture by Prince Leopold I of Anhalt-Dessau, better known as the “Old Dessauer”. He gave his favourite daughter Anna Wilhelmine of Anhalt-Dessau the estates on which the castle was built from 1752 onwards as her summer residence.

The construction work was under the supervision of Christian Friedrich Damm, but there are indications that the designs could possibly have come from the famous Prussian master builder Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorff. So it’s no wonder that Mosigkau Palace is often affectionately referred to as “little Sanssouci”.

Visit to the palace

The interiors of the palace exude an elegant opulence, which is reflected in the many details – from ornate stucco work to sumptuous furniture and precious wall coverings. It is a place that perfectly captures the spirit of Rococo and offers an impressive view of the world of the 18th century. You shouldn’t miss it.
