Wörlitz

An impressive English-style landscaped park

Here is now infinitely beautiful. […] The bushes are in their most beautiful youth, and the whole has the purest loveliness...”, wrote Johann Wolfgang von Goethe in 1778 about the then new Wörlitz Park. To this day, guests of the unique landscape park are as enthusiastic as the prince of poets.

History

The earliest of its kind

After a trip to England, Prince Leopold III Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau began to reshape his principality in 1765 and to a certain extent created his own England there. The Wörlitzer Park is the start and highlight of this project. It is the first English landscape park to be created on the European mainland – and to this day it is a true masterpiece of garden art!

Wörlitz Park combines the prince’s intentions to beautify his country, to educate his people and to combine the useful with the beautiful. What does that mean? Stay tuned!
